Wooo hoooo! Kayleigh and Nathan are married!!! It was a rainy wedding day (something most couples dread!), but they were in the best spirits and celebrated with joy all day. I originally met Kayleigh years ago while photographing Kayleigh’s best friend’s wedding (Maya and Ben if you’re a longtime follower on social!). Kayleigh was a bridesmaid, and I was absolutely honored when she reached out to us as her top vendor choice from that experience at Maya’s wedding! <3
Kayleigh and Nathan chose a venue in Gaithersburg, Maryland called Kentlands Mansion. This was our first time traveling to Maryland for a wedding, and we absolutely loved every moment. I will admit that the day did start out a little challenging though – the hotel where they got ready did not have a lot of natural light (it was EARLY in the morning and much of the walls/carpeting were dark).
Thankfully, the comforter and sheets from the hotel bed were white, so we hung them up as a reflector and worked some magic with the little light that was coming in from the window (yes, some photographers use flash for these images, but we find that natural light has such a beautiful glow that we prefer). I think we ended up with some pretty amazing images:
When we arrived at Kentlands, we knew it was going to be a rainy wedding day. The team had the chairs set up outside, but it was steady drizzling. The forecast showed a possibility of clearing up for about an hour (and then the rain returning). It ended up stopping JUST for the ceremony and started again right after. We pivoted and did family images indoors with a flash, but we were able to jump out again for a few minutes for some portraits between rain.
The couple ended the day with a fun bubble exit. Our favorite tip is adding a bubble gun or bubble machine “behind the scenes” to fill the air with a little extra. Let’s face it, your friends are great, but blowing a ton of bubbles from a super tiny wand is not so easy!
Congratulations, Kayleigh and Nathan! Thank you for choosing Mattie Wezah Photography to capture your rainy wedding day!
