Tony’s surprise for Brie couldn’t have been more perfect. He planned a Colonial Williamsburg proposal surrounded by history, beauty, and all the people they love most. On a warm day in the heart of Colonial Williamsburg, Brie thought she was out for a simple walk — but Tony had other plans.

With a beautifully decorated gazebo in front, designed with florals by Lindsay Codekas of the Williamsburg Inn and Colonial Williamsburg Resorts, Tony walked up with Brie, hand in hand, with the biggest smile. What Brie didn’t know was that their family and friends — more than twenty of them — were hiding in the bushes nearby, ready to witness the moment.

When Tony dropped to one knee, the look on Brie’s face said it all. Joy, shock, and love all at once. The family emerged cheering and clapping, popping up in surprise from behind the bushes and fence. It was a moment filled with laughter, tears, and celebration — one they’ll never forget.

Why a Colonial Williamsburg Proposal Is So Special

Colonial Williamsburg is one of Virginia’s most romantic and timeless spots for proposals. With its charming streets, historic gardens, and iconic gazebos, it feels like stepping back in time — the perfect place to begin a new chapter together. Every proposal there feels personal, and Tony and Brie’s moment was made even more special with family close by.

Tips for Planning Your Colonial Williamsburg Proposal

If you’re thinking about planning your own proposal in Colonial Williamsburg, here are a few helpful tips to make it unforgettable:

  1. Pick a meaningful location. Whether it’s the Governor’s Palace Gardens, a romantic gazebo, or one of the shaded brick paths, choose a spot that feels timeless and scenic.
  2. Hire a florist to elevate the space. Beautiful florals like those created by Lindsay Codekas can transform even a simple location into something magical.
  3. Include family and friends — thoughtfully. If you’re inviting guests to watch, make sure they know where to stand and when to come out for the surprise moment.
  4. Work with a photographer who knows Colonial Williamsburg well. Timing and light make all the difference. Having someone familiar with the area helps you capture genuine reactions beautifully.
  5. Plan a follow-up celebration. Many couples love heading to dinner nearby in Merchant’s Square or the Williamsburg Inn afterward to keep the excitement going.

Wrapping Up

Tony and Brie’s Colonial Williamsburg proposal was everything you could hope for — joyful, family-filled, and full of love. It’s moments like this that remind me how meaningful photography can be: preserving the exact second that one story ends and another begins.
