There’s something timeless about Colonial Williamsburg — the cobblestone paths, historic architecture, and beautiful gardens make it the perfect backdrop for capturing life’s most meaningful moments. As a Colonial Williamsburg photographer, I’ve had the honor of documenting many milestones here, but this one-year-old’s birthday tea party on the Governor’s Palace lawn was truly one-of-a-kind.
A First Birthday Worth Remembering
This elegant celebration, styled by the talented team at The Gathering Tearoom, was the perfect blend of vintage charm and childhood whimsy. With dainty tea cups, beautiful tablecloths, and garden florals, the lawn transformed into a scene straight from a storybook. As a family photographer, moments like these — full of laughter, sweetness, and a touch of history — are a dream to capture.
We began with the beautiful setup: tiny cups, pastel treats, and delicate tea settings, all designed for both little hands and adults. The birthday girl explored every detail, and I focused on getting shots as well as posed — authentic, joyful moments that make a gallery truly unforgettable.

No first birthday is complete without a cake smash, and this one did not disappoint. On the lawn of the Governor’s Palace, surrounded by friends and family, the birthday girl dove in with icing-covered hands and a sparkle in her eye.
